Cranky Doctors, Evil Cops, and No LoVe in Mars...

I'm still reeling from the Fall finale of Veronica Mars -- the editing of the episode, the acting, the music -- it was all superb. And the revelation of the rapist's identity (and his accomplice -- knew that RA was up to no good with all that tea!) was stunning. Total kudos.

I've sometimes felt Kristen Bell, and Veronica, were a little smug this season, a little too facile. One of the things I always love about Veronica, let's face it, is that deep down she's not really one of the in-crowd. She may have been born beautiful, with a rapier with and impossible coolness, but she's still not "cool," if that makes sense. So this season's Veronica has sometimes struck me as just a little too barbed in her comments, a little too bitchy -- and offscale on the Flip-o-Meter. But I can also see this as a believable response to the events of last season, especially that shattering season 2 finale.

Regardless, it felt great to see some real emotion from Veronica -- particularly after Logan's very believable, painful, awkward conversation. I'm a total LoVe shipper, but also agree that, right now, Veronica's just not gonna let anyone in. They're almost too perfect for each other -- smart, witty, formidably armored. So we'll see what happens. I just hope she doesn't jump over to Piz right away, as I'm not quite feelin' that yet. And come January, I do hope we see more of the regulars -- of Mac, especially.

Meanwhile, on to the world of cranky doctors with canes, as I basically felt sorry for everyone on House last week (except Tritter) and YES, I am still thinking about that episode (and still angry at House over that awful deathbed confrontation). And poor Wilson, who betrays House (for his own good), decides to renege even if it means going to jail himself, but then finds himself trapped once again by Tritter. And even with everything House has put him through, I was glad to see Wilson show up at House's door Christmas Eve to check on him... and devasted when he left House semi-conscious on the floor, lying next to his own vomit.

But I gotta say, while I adore House (and his snark with the Mom of his patient was both divinely flirtatious and at House's witty best), I have gone over to the dark side and have begun to root for this guy to get help before he destroys everyone around him. I'm very familiar with pain management and the realities of medical addiction (it's a necessary side effect for many who are on pain management, and was for my stepdad), but it's true -- House's needs are psychological as well as physical, he's wildly abusive of the meds, and yeah, he needs help. So here's hoping he gets it. AND that Cuddy turns back into a good doctor and a believable character again -- I miss her, dammit. And didn't there used to be a doctor on the show named Chase? Whatever happened to him? Hmm...

Meanwhile, as far as finales go, I still haven't caught up on Friday night's midseason finale of Battlestar Galactica but am dying to after last week's devastating "Passage." I was never a big fan of Kat's -- she's so pushy and over the top -- but this episode had me in tears (not to mention the seriously heartwrenching recap over at TWOP). And when Kat got off that Raptor and raised her arms weakly to the crowd... just a gorgeous, devastating moment. Cried like a baby.

So I'm hoping to be able to catch up on Friday's episode tonight, after a tough weekend of lots of PR and other catchup. I always tend to hoard my BSG episodes like candy, then tend to watch several in a row, gobbling up the goodies. Over Christmas, meanwhile, my big, geeky goal of the quiet few weeks over the holidays is to watch the entire BSG season 3 again, just to see what I might have missed the first time. Besides, the show's so good it not only holds up to repeated viewings, it truly does demand them.

Just for fun, I've put some new stuff up in our wild, weird and paranoid world of shirts and buttons -- more variations on Cranky Doctor Groupie, some closeups on "Everybody Lies," as well as a ton of new Theatre stuff over the last few weeks. My goal there is to get stuff up for everyone in theatre -- from grips and techs, to designers, to actors, to directors, FOH, and more. My favorite new thing is the "I'm surprisingly hot onstage" piece for shirts, cards and buttons, along with "My resume says I'm a star," but I'll prob'ly be the only person who thinks this, since my bizarre sense of humor had me giggling the entire time I was creating them. I'm such a dork.
